Auston Woods Apartments November 2015 Newsletter

Resident Amenities and Service

We love being able to provide exceptional service to our residents. So that we may continue to provide a high level of service, we would like to remind residents that services and amenities are for Auston Woods residents only.

This includes, but is not limited to, pool/fitness center/business center access, DVD library, and package acceptance.

We welcome you to bring guests to enjoy our amenities: each resident is limited to two guests and the resident must be present.

DVDs will not be released to non-lease holders, and packages received for parties not named on the lease agreement will be returned to sender.

Effective November 15, 2015 Residents with delinquent balances will have restriction placed on amenity use including but not limited to package acceptance in office and use of common areas (fitness centers, pools, business centers, internet cafe etc.).

Thanksgiving Potluck

Why wait until Thanksgiving to enjoy a holiday feast? Join us at between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11th for our Annual Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner.

Enjoy the company of your friends and neighbors, and some delicious food. Auston Woods will provide turkey, ham, various sides, and beverages while supplies last.

We welcome you to bring your favorite side dish or dessert. Register your dish by Monday, November 10th at 5pm. Of course, feel free to bring surprise dishes! A dish is not required to attend.

Veteran’s Day

Veterans’ Day is Wednesday, November 11th. Known as Veterans Day since 1954, the holiday was first recognized in 1919 as Armistice Day as a commemoration of the end of World War I.

We now recognize Veterans Day as a time to give appreciation to members of the armed forces, both past and present. On behalf of Auston Woods and HHHunt, we thank all who have served to protect our country.

Food Drive

With the holidays starting, we would like to ask that our residents help us give to the less fortunate. We will be collecting non-perishable food items, which will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. We will accept donations through Monday, November 30th.

Time to Fall Back

Don’t forget to set your clocks back, as Daylight Saving Time ends in the United States on Sunday, Nov. 1st, at 2am. Whether you plan to catch up on sleep or hit the gym, we hope you enjoy your extra hour.

Maintenance Tip of the Month

When temperatures outside are below freezing be sure to open your cabinets, run water in your faucets and keep your thermostat set at 65 degrees or higher. The combination of these three things will help keep frozen pipes to a minimum.

Gate Reminders

For the safety of all, gate regulations must be adhered to at all times.

Do not piggy-back or allow others to do so at any time.

Should you have any guests that need admittance, please use the calling system at the front gate or use your access card to grant them access.

Please let the gate arm lower before using your access card.

For a complete list of front gate regulations, please see the Resident Handbook

'Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings'

2-3 Tablespoons Butter
6 boneless skinless chicken thighs or 4 boneless skinless breasts
1 Onion diced
2 cans of Cream of Chicken Soup
1-2 ribs celery sliced or diced
1-2 carrots sliced or diced
Frozen Peas (about ½-1 cup, or desired amount)
3-4 Cups Chicken broth
2 small packages Grands Jr biscuits (total 10 biscuits) torn into 5-6 pieces
flour for dusting dumplings

1. Place the chicken, butter, soup, veggies and onion in a greased slow cooker, and fill with enough broth to cover.
2. Secure lid and cook for 5 to 6 hours on High. About 30-45 minutes before serving, roll each torn biscuit piece in flour (to prevent them from sticking together), then drop into the slow cooker. Replace lid and cook remaining 30-45 minutes or until dumplings are cooked through. Dunk dumplings in liquid once or twice during final cooking stage.

Help Us Keep Our Community Clean

We have recently noticed an increase in litter throughout the community.

Garbage that has not been disposed of properly poses a big concern, not only because it is unsightly, but also because it may act as an attractant to pests and wildlife.

Trash items should always be placed inside the trash compactors or appropriate trash receptacles. Please do not leave household trash items on balcony/patio areas or in building breezeways.

Pet waste must also be disposed of properly. In addition to causing unpleasant odors, pet waste poses a health hazard to people and animals. For your convenience, pet waste stations are located throughout the community.

Please note that anyone who does not properly dispose of waste materials, whether household trash or pet waste, will be charged $25/waste item.

To keep the exterior of the buildings looking their best, we also ask that you refrain from hanging towels and bathing suits over the railing of your balcony/patio areas.

Turning on the Heat

As the weather cools down, many of you will be turning on your heat for the first time. To give the unit time to adjust to the change, please leave the unit “Off” for 5 minutes when switching from “Cool” to “Heat”.

Because the heating elements have been unused for several months, dust may have accumulated on the element. The first time you turn on the unit, the dust may heat up and cause smoke and a burning smell.

This is normal. If the smoke detector goes off, you may need to open the windows to allow the apartment to clear out. For normal use, however, please do not have the heating/air conditioning unit running while the windows are open, as this can cause additional wear and tear to the unit.
